Angela Terms and Conditions
These Terms govern your use of the Angela mobile application.
1. About These Terms
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Angela mobile application (the “App”), developed and operated by Angela Technologies LTD, a company incorporated in Israel with company number 517414009 (the “Company,” “we,” or “us”).
Please read these Terms and the Privacy Policy before using the App. By selecting the acceptance checkbox and continuing, you agree to these Terms and acknowledge the Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree, do not use the App. If you use the App for a minor, you must be that minor’s parent or legal guardian and must follow Section 4.
2. What Angela Does and Does Not Do
Angela is a user-configured safety and communication tool. When listening is turned on and the configured phrase is detected, or when you manually trigger the safety workflow, the App attempts the actions you enabled in its settings without asking for further confirmation for each action. Depending on your configuration and platform, those actions may include sending an alert to selected trusted contacts, playing a siren, flashing the device light, and including available location information in an alert.
Angela is not an emergency dispatch service, monitoring service, medical service, rescue service, security service, or substitute for contacting emergency responders. Angela does not itself contact police, ambulance, fire and rescue, or other emergency services, and it does not place phone calls. In immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service directly when you can do so safely.
Angela is an additional safety measure. It is not a guarantee that an emergency will be detected, that an alert will be sent or delivered, or that a trusted contact or anyone else will respond or provide help.
3. Availability and Supported Use
The App is designed and supported for use in Israel. The Company does not represent that the App or its alert functions will work outside Israel. The App requires a compatible device, supported operating system, required permissions, sufficient battery, and network access for functions that depend on connectivity.
4. Eligibility and Minors
You must be at least 13 years old to use the App. If you are aged 13 to 17, you may use the App only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian, subject to applicable law and any age limits imposed by the App Store or Google Play. The guardian must review these Terms and the Privacy Policy with the minor and is responsible for the minor’s use to the extent permitted by law. Adults accepting these Terms must be legally capable of doing so.
Do not enable listening or alerts for another person or configure their device without their knowledge and any consent required by law.
5. Setup and User-Controlled Actions
You choose the phrase, trusted contacts, alert message, and available actions in the App. You are responsible for reviewing the configuration, testing it safely, keeping the device charged and compatible, and checking that the required permissions and system settings remain enabled. An update, device replacement, permission change, operating-system setting, or network change may affect operation.
The App may offer a local notification, trusted-contact alert, siren, flashlight, and optional location sharing. Availability can vary by device, operating system, permissions, and platform rules. An action is attempted only when the relevant feature is available, enabled, and authorized. Some device indicators may remain visible while a system function is active.
If location sharing is enabled, the App attempts to obtain your current location. Availability and accuracy depend on your phone, permissions, and surrounding conditions. An alert may contain an approximate location or the last known location available to your phone, which may be outdated. The App does not guarantee that an alert contains your current or exact position.
6. Trusted Contacts and Alerts
You are responsible for selecting appropriate trusted contacts, entering accurate and current contact details, and ensuring that each person has agreed to receive alerts from you before you add their information. Tell each contact what kind of message they may receive and that the message may include location if you enable that option. You must have authority to provide their contact information and must use the App lawfully.
You can change or remove trusted contacts in the App’s available settings. Removing a contact stops future attempts to send alerts to that contact after the change takes effect; it cannot recall a message already sent or prevent a message already in transit from arriving.
The Company does not control a trusted contact and cannot ensure that they receive, notice, understand, or act on an alert. The Company does not verify that a contact is willing or able to help. Keep your contact list current and maintain other suitable safety arrangements.
7. Platform-Specific Message Delivery
On Android, when enabled and permitted, the App attempts to send the configured alert using the device’s SMS capability. Carrier, device, SIM, account, network, permission, and messaging restrictions may prevent or delay sending or delivery. Carrier charges may apply.
On iOS, the App uses Apple Critical Messaging where supported and authorized. This feature is subject to Apple’s operating-system and entitlement requirements, recipient authorization, device and network availability, and any limits imposed by Apple. It is not the same delivery path as Android SMS and is not available on every device or in every circumstance.
An attempted send does not confirm delivery, that a contact saw the message, or that assistance is on the way. The App may report that an action was attempted or failed, but status information may itself be delayed or unavailable.
8. Detection and Technical Limitations
Phrase detection is automated and may fail to recognize a phrase, may recognize it incorrectly, or may trigger unexpectedly. Results may be affected by background noise, distance, speech, language, device placement, microphone condition, other apps using audio, calls, operating-system behavior, and other environmental or technical conditions. The App may stop listening or be interrupted, including by device settings, force quit, suspension, termination, or resource restrictions.
Android listening may use a foreground microphone service after you start listening; system or higher-priority audio use can interrupt it. On iOS, listening is limited by Apple’s operating-system behavior and cannot be guaranteed after force quit, suspension, or termination. Neither platform provides guaranteed continuous monitoring.
The App depends on your device, operating system, permissions, battery, network, carriers, Apple or Google services, and other third-party systems. Outages, updates, maintenance, incompatibility, or failures may affect detection, actions, or delivery. Test the configuration periodically in a safe manner and do not rely on the App as your sole safety measure.
9. Permissions and Device Functions
The App may request microphone and speech-recognition permissions for phrase detection, location permission if you enable location in alerts, and other operating-system permissions needed for features you choose. The flashlight action controls the device light; it does not mean that the App captures images or video. You can manage permissions in your device settings, but disabling a permission may make the corresponding feature unavailable.
10. Privacy
The Privacy Policy explains what personal information the App and Company process, why they process it, how long it is retained, who receives it, how to exercise applicable rights, and how to contact the Company about privacy. Read that policy together with these Terms.
Audio processing, your safe phrase, and trusted-contact settings stay on your device. The Company does not receive the microphone recordings or recognition transcripts used for phrase detection. Optional data sharing is explained in the Privacy Policy. When an alert is triggered, the App may send your alert message and, if you enabled it and location is available, location information to the selected contact through the relevant platform delivery service, which processes the contact details needed for delivery.
The App offers separate optional analytics and crash-reporting choices, both off until you opt in and changeable in settings. When you enable the relevant service, the App can transmit usage events, limited settings metadata such as whether a feature is enabled, and crash diagnostics associated with a random app-installation identifier generated on your device. This does not upload your safe phrase, contact list, alert message, or full configuration. The identifier does not encode your name or contact details, but can associate records from the same installation. If you submit optional demographic responses, the App sends those responses with the same identifier to a Company endpoint. The Privacy Policy explains this use and distinguishes feedback, which is stored without that identifier.
Contact information entered for trusted contacts is used to configure alerts and may be processed on your device and by the platform service used to send them. The App stores local configuration, including your configured safety phrase, and may keep pending safety-action status until you acknowledge it. Pending status does not include detected speech or recognition transcripts. The App does not persist detected-text incident history. Local configuration may remain until you change or remove it or uninstall the App, subject to operating-system and backup settings. The Company does not promise that deleting the App deletes information held by third parties or data already sent to a contact.
Optional onboarding answers and feedback are handled as described in the Privacy Policy, including their purposes, stored fields, retention, and your choices and applicable rights. You can use the App’s safety functions without submitting these answers or feedback.
11. Your Responsibilities and Prohibited Uses
You agree to provide accurate information, use the App only for its intended and lawful purpose, respect other people’s rights and privacy, and maintain reasonable security for your device. You are responsible for preventing unauthorized people from accessing your device or viewing information displayed by the App.
You must not misuse the App, use it to harass or deceive anyone, infringe another person’s rights, interfere with the App or its security, introduce malicious code, bypass access controls, reverse engineer the App except where applicable law or an applicable third-party license permits, or use it in any unlawful manner.
You may not copy, distribute, sell, sublicense, modify, or commercially exploit the App except as permitted by these Terms, applicable law, applicable third-party licenses, or the Company’s written permission.
12. Intellectual Property and Feedback
The Company and its licensors retain all rights in the App, its software, design, text, graphics, trademarks, and other content. For the Android version, subject to these Terms, the Company grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on a device you own or control for personal, lawful use. The software license for the iOS version distributed through Apple’s App Store is described in Section 13. Neither license transfers ownership or other intellectual-property rights.
The App includes third-party software, models, and other materials governed by their respective licenses. Those licenses govern the relevant components, and nothing in these Terms limits rights granted under them. Copyright notices and license texts for selected components are available on our Third-party licenses page.
If you provide feedback, you permit the Company to use it to improve the App without restriction or compensation, to the extent permitted by law. This does not transfer ownership of your personal information or override the Privacy Policy. The Company may use information that has been irreversibly aggregated and de-identified, where permitted by law and as described in the Privacy Policy. It may also share aggregate demographic statistics with third parties as described in the Privacy Policy, including after deletion of the underlying individual records. This sharing excludes individual demographic records and app-installation identifiers and is limited to statistics that cannot reasonably identify a person or be linked back to an individual app installation.
13. Third-Party Services and App Stores
The App relies on third-party services and infrastructure, including mobile networks, internet providers, Apple, Google, messaging services, and analytics and crash-reporting providers. Those services are outside the Company’s control and may have their own terms and privacy policies. Their availability or operation may affect the App.
If you download the App from Apple App Store or Google Play, your use of that store is also governed by its terms. These Terms are between you and the Company. To the extent required by the applicable store terms, the store provider and its affiliates are third-party beneficiaries of the provisions that expressly benefit them. Store providers are not responsible for providing maintenance or support for the App, except where their terms or applicable law say otherwise.
For the iOS version distributed through Apple’s App Store, your software license is governed by Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA), with the Company as the application provider. These Terms supplement that license with Angela’s service terms and do not replace it with a custom EULA. If these Terms conflict with the Standard EULA on software licensing, the Standard EULA governs that issue, subject to mandatory rights under applicable law.
14. Support, Updates, and Changes
The Company may update, repair, improve, or change the App, including for security, legal, or technical reasons. We do not promise that every feature will remain available. We may discontinue the App or a feature, subject to applicable law and any rights you have.
For technical or other inquiries, contact [email protected].
We may update these Terms. Minor corrections, such as fixing typos without changing the substance of these Terms, will not require renewed acceptance. We will provide notice of material changes before they take effect and obtain renewed acceptance where required by law. The notice will state when the changes take effect. Changes involving new categories of optional data or new uses outside your existing consent will be explained and require fresh consent as described in the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to revised Terms, stop using the App and, where applicable, cancel any paid service through the relevant provider.
15. Fees
The App is currently free to use. This is not a commitment that the App or all its features will always be free. The Company may introduce charges for the App, paid features, or subscriptions in the future. Before charging you, the Company will disclose the applicable price and terms and obtain your agreement as required by law.
16. Suspension and Ending Use
You may stop using the App and remove it from your device at any time. The App does not provide a Company-hosted user account. Removing the App may delete local configuration and pending safety-action status, but may not delete information already transmitted to a third party or retained under device backup settings. Consult the Privacy Policy for requests concerning information processed by the Company.
If paid features or subscriptions are introduced, cancellation and refunds will be handled under the terms disclosed when you purchase and the applicable provider’s process, subject to mandatory legal rights. Nothing in these Terms limits statutory cancellation or refund rights.
The Company may suspend or restrict access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the App, or third parties; to address misuse, security, or legal requirements; or where the App is discontinued. We will act consistently with applicable law.
17. Warranty Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, the App is provided as available. The Company does not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation, compatibility with every device, accurate detection in every environment, or successful message delivery. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
18. Limitation of Liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability, remedies, or rights that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. Subject to that rule, the Company is not liable for loss caused by circumstances outside its reasonable control, including device or operating-system failures, network or carrier outages, third-party service failures, or use contrary to the App’s instructions.
To the extent permitted by law, the Company is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential loss, or loss of profit, data, goodwill, or opportunity arising from use of or inability to use the App. This section does not exclude liability for death, personal injury, fraud, willful misconduct, or other liability that cannot be limited by law.
19. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you are responsible for third-party claims to the extent directly caused by your unlawful use of the App or your infringement of another person’s rights. The Company will provide reasonable notice of a claim and will not seek indemnity for loss caused by the Company’s own conduct where applicable law prohibits that result.
20. Force Majeure
The Company is not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond its reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, terrorism, civil disorder, government action, labor disruption, major infrastructure or network failures, or widespread cyber incidents, for the duration and to the extent the event prevents performance. This section does not remove rights or liabilities that cannot be excluded by law.
21. Governing Law and Disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, subject to mandatory consumer-protection rules. Any dispute will be heard by a court in Israel with jurisdiction under applicable law. Nothing in this section limits a consumer’s mandatory rights or changes jurisdiction where the law does not permit it.
22. General
These Terms and the Privacy Policy, together with the applicable software license described in Sections 12 and 13, describe the agreement concerning your use of the App, except for additional terms presented for a specific feature or purchase. If a provision is invalid or unenforceable, it will be applied to the greatest lawful extent and the remaining provisions will continue to apply. You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without the Company’s consent. The Company may transfer its rights and obligations as part of a reorganization, merger, acquisition, or transfer of the relevant business, subject to law and your rights.
These Terms do not create a partnership, agency, employment, or relationship between the Company and any trusted contact. A trusted contact is not the Company’s agent and the Company does not control their response.
